Funduscopy

What is Funduscopy.

The term funduscopy describes the examination of the eye fundus, which is the inner lining of the back of the eye. The fundus is made up of the retina, optic nerve and the retinal blood vessels.

The reason for Funduscopy.

Funduscopy is part of a routine eye examination and helps to screen or detect many conditions such as retinal detachment, macula degeneration, glaucoma or inflammation of the optic nerve, diabetic retinopathy … etc

  • The final diagnosis of glaucoma may require several more procedures done by an ophthalmologist (eye specialist) but funduscopy is a good initial screening for patients at higher risk of glaucoma.
